Product Lifecycle Management solutions to experience changes in 2012
Technology constantly changes the way industries design and manufacture products, and some experts believe Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) practices will experience major alterations in 2012.
According to a global innovation consulting firm, cloud-based PLM technology will become the norm for businesses as they realize the potential advantages of the cloud, such as saving costs on energy and software ownership. The report cites Dassault Systemes' new cloud-based PLM system was one of many options businesses will have.
"In 2012 we will see a number of firms start exploring cloud-based PLM solutions, particularly small to midsize companies in industries like consumer packaged goods (CPG) that tend to be more green-conscious," said innovation expert George Young.
The report also predicts PLM will become a universal strategy among CPG companies, which have generally been slow to adopt PLM. Young expects PLM to become an obvious advantage for such enterprises during the next 18 to 24 months, as these businesses are dealing with unstable raw material costs and an increased emphasis on regulatory compliance.
Dassault Systemes was recently ranked among the top PLM providers in the world, according to Consumer Goods Technology's 2011 Readers' Choice Survey, which asked subscribers to identify their most valued and used products across 10 categories.
